That’s not all – consumers are also using Google to make informed decisions on where to shop. Shopping malls and big box stores are certainly feeling the heat from online retailers like Amazon. The easiest way to connect with your customers these days is using a tablet. Restaurants are placing them at tables to immediately generate reviews on how they can better serve their customers. Dental offices and massage clinics are using them to make sign-ins quick and effortless. Think about it: if your customers are already using smartphones to do everything from read the news to checking email, how does your customer feel when they have to use a pen to write their name, address, and everything else?

As ridiculous as it sounds, some customers might view your business as old and decrepit, even if you have nice chairs, a granite reception desk and beautiful artwork hanging around. Handwriting is becoming a lost art. Sad though it may be, as a business owner shouldn’t you be adopting to your customer’s preferences rather than trying to fight market trends? Besides – you can still keep the pen and paper handy for the less tech-savvy folks who might walk in the door!

Technology isn’t just designed to make our lives easier – it’s designed to make us more connected as well. For example, if you’re an accountant, online bookkeeping software like Xero can allow your customers to see their cash-flow laid out in pretty graphs in real-time – a much nicer experience than having to drive to the accountant’s office to go over the numbers. Doctors, chiropractors and dentists could share an X-Ray with their customers and make a diagnosis using telemedicine – just in the same way us techies use remote software to diagnose computer problems. Connecting with your customers creates a better experience whereby you not only save your customers time, but you become more transparent with them as well.
